You’re busy – we get that. You rely on your truck or SUV to get the job done, get the kids to school and the groceries home, and get up the mountain or over to the coast for a weekend away. Our job is to make sure your family’s vehicles stay safe around every bend in the road.
Differential Oil Change
Your owner’s manual most likely recommends changing the differential fluid in your vehicle every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. If you didn’t happen to read that page and you’ve been taking your car to the quick oil change, chances are this important maintenance task has been overlooked. Changing the differential’s oil is just as important as changing your engine oil, and for the same reasons.
When your differential’s lubrication is not properly maintained, the gears and bearings inside will grind against each other. That whining sound you hear when you accelerate may be the differential getting “cranky” – it’s thirsty for the lubrication it needs to transfer power smoothly from the engine to the wheels. The resulting friction and heat could eventually cause the differential to fail altogether.
Not sure about the state of your differential’s fluid? Come on in and let us take a look.
How do you know when to have The Rear End Shop check your differential for problems? Listen for these sounds:
- A whirring noise either while decelerating or at speeds over 15 mph
- Rumbling that starts when your speed exceeds 15 mph
- A persistent clunking sound
- High pitched howling when you accelerate
- Banging or skipping when cornering
These symptoms indicate that your truck or SUV’s differential may already be failing. Come see us as soon as possible. You can make an appointment by phone or using the online scheduler.
